What is AI outbound calling?

AI outbound calling means handing your cold sales prospecting calls — cold calling — to voice agents driven by a language model. In practice: you define a target, an offer and a goal; the agent dials the numbers in your prospect file, introduces itself, lays out your proposition in a few sentences, listens to the reactions, handles the common objections, qualifies the prospect's interest and, when the exchange warrants it, books an appointment straight into your sales rep's calendar.

This approach must be told apart from two things that have been around for a long time. On one side, robocalls and auto-diallers: a pre-recorded message blasted out en masse, with no listening, that everyone hangs up on — and that has done lasting damage to the reputation of telemarketing. On the other, classic outsourced telemarketing in a call centre: human agents reading a script, with all the cost, turnover and inconsistency that entails. An AI sales agent is a third kind of thing: it holds a real conversation, two-way, in natural French — but it is software, applying your script without ever tiring of it.

What made this possible are the same technical building blocks used for answering inbound calls: real-time speech recognition, a conversational language model, natural speech synthesis. Accueil IA already runs this engine in production on inbound calls for tradespeople and small businesses; automated AI outbound calling is the same system, pointed the other way.

The problem: manual prospecting is expensive and wears teams down

Everyone knows they need to prospect; almost no one enjoys doing it. Reaching a decision-maker often takes several attempts, a good share of calls land on voicemail or an unavailable person, and most completed conversations end in a polite no. That is the normal mechanics of cold calling — but for a human, it is draining.

As a result, in many companies: sales reps put off phoning, prospecting happens "when there's time", meaning rarely, and the deal flow moves in fits and starts. You prospect when the pipeline is empty, you stop as soon as it fills up, and the dry spell comes back a few months later. Delegating to a human provider is possible, but a competent telemarketer costs money — and their time is structurally limited: every hour of calls is an hour billed.

The real cost of manual prospecting is therefore not just the salary or the provider's invoice. It is also everything that never gets done: the prospects never called, the follow-ups never made, the dormant files never woken up.

The solution: an AI sales agent that calls, qualifies and fills the calendar

An AI outbound calling agent tackles this problem through volume and consistency. It works through the calls during business hours, day after day, without fatigue, without apprehension and without slowing down after the tenth rejection. The thirtieth call of the day is exactly as polished as the first.

On each call, the agent:

  • introduces itself clearly: your company name, the reason for the call, and the fact that it is an AI assistant (see below — it's a principle of ours);
  • runs through your pitch, prepared and validated with you — not a generic script;
  • handles the common objections ("send me an email", "we already have a provider", "now's not the time") with the answers you have chosen;
  • qualifies the interest: interested, to call back later, out of scope, not interested — every prospect record comes back filled in;
  • books the appointment in your sales rep's calendar when the prospect is keen, or schedules a callback at the agreed date;
  • writes a report after each call, with the full transcript of the conversation.

We should also be honest about what a prospecting callbot does not do: it does not sign contracts and does not replace the sales meeting. Its work stops where your sales rep's begins — a calendar filled with qualified appointments, with the full context of each exchange. And if a prospect declines, the agent closes politely and adds the number to an exclusion list: it will not be contacted again.

How an automated AI outbound calling campaign works

  1. The file. You provide your list of B2B prospects: past customers, enquiries that went nowhere, a database built legally. We need very little — the company, the number and, if possible, the contact's name. We never call private individuals.
  2. The script. Together, we write the pitch, the answers to objections, the qualifying questions and the goal of the call (appointment, callback, information gathering). You approve every word before the first call.
  3. The campaign. The agent calls during office hours, at the agreed pace. It detects voicemail and, depending on your choice, leaves a short message or hangs up without leaving one.
  4. The conversation. Transparent introduction, pitch, listening, objections, qualification. If the prospect wants an appointment, the agent checks the calendar in real time and offers slots that are genuinely free.
  5. The follow-up. After each call: a written report and a full transcript. Across the campaign: how many numbers called, people reached, prospects interested, appointments booked. You see what is said, word for word.

It's the same platform as our AI phone answering service on the inbound side: viewable transcripts, history by contact, nothing opaque.

An AI that says it's an AI

A stance we own: our agents announce at the start of the call that they are AI assistants calling on behalf of your company. No voice that "pretends", no ambiguity kept alive.

There is a regulatory reason — the European regulation on artificial intelligence requires informing a person when they are interacting with an AI — and a commercial one, more down to earth: an appointment obtained through a misunderstanding is a bad appointment. The prospect who accepts a slot knowing an AI agent called them also knows that your company stands behind its tools; the one put off by it hangs up within twenty seconds, and no one has wasted their time. In practice, the disclosure sometimes surprises, often intrigues — and regularly serves as a conversation opener.

B2B prospecting and GDPR: the framework we set for ourselves

Telemarketing has a bad reputation, largely because of aggressive practices aimed at consumers. We deliberately position ourselves elsewhere:

  • B2B only. We prospect professionals on behalf of professionals. Never consumer cold calling — the rules that protect private individuals (opt-out registers, B2C calling-hour restrictions) cover ground we simply do not set foot on.
  • A serious legal basis. In B2B, prospecting relies on legitimate interest, with a common-sense condition: the offer made must relate to the professional activity of the person called. A targeted, relevant file, not spray-and-pray.
  • Clear identification. From the first few seconds: who is calling, for which company, why.
  • Immediate and lasting opt-out. "Don't call me again" is enough. The number goes onto an exclusion list and is no longer dialled, neither in this campaign nor in later ones.
  • Minimal data. Company, business number, contact, history of exchanges. No hidden enrichment, no reselling of data.
  • Hosting in France. Recordings, transcripts and campaign files stay on our servers in France. Rights of access, rectification, objection and erasure can be exercised on simple request.

Who it's for

Outsourced AI telemarketing is aimed at organisations that sell to other businesses and whose order book depends on regular prospecting:

  • B2B SMEs with a sales team: the agent clears the ground and qualifies, your reps spend their time in meetings rather than on the phone.
  • Freelancers and consultants: those who know how to sell face to face but keep putting off phoning week after week.
  • Agencies (web, communications, recruitment): a steady flow of calls to smooth out activity between two big clients.
  • Software vendors and business services: qualifying accounts before mobilising a human for the demo.
  • Reactivating dormant databases: former customers, quotes left unanswered, contacts from trade shows. The file already exists — no one has the time to call it back.

If your need is the opposite — to stop missing the calls that come in — that's our original business: see the AI phone answering service or the AI voice agent page.

How much it costs

Pricing is set on a quote basis, because no two prospecting campaigns are alike: size of the file, complexity of the script, duration, target goal. Rather than a grid that would fit no one, we prefer a short conversation: you describe your target and your offer, we show you the agent in real conditions, and you leave with a precise quote.

To talk it through: book a demo (30 minutes, by video call), ask to get a callback, call 09 72 10 55 19 to hear our agent on the phone, or write to contact@accueil-ia.fr.

AI outbound calling FAQ

Is it legal to make prospecting calls with an AI?

Yes, in B2B and under conditions: clear identification of the caller and of the company it is calling for, an offer relevant to the professional activity of the person contacted, the right to object respected immediately, data processed in line with the GDPR. That is the framework we apply. We never cold-call private individuals, a scope where the rules are far more restrictive (opt-out registers, regulated hours).

Does the prospect know they're talking to an AI?

Yes. The agent announces at the very start of the call that it is an AI assistant calling on behalf of your company. The European regulation on AI requires this transparency, and above all it is our conviction: an appointment made through a misunderstanding is a bad appointment.

Does the AI agent really handle objections?

Yes, within the framework of the script prepared with you. The recurring objections ("send me an email", "we already have a provider", "call back in six months") get the answers you have validated. Faced with a question outside the script, the agent does not bluff: it says so, offers to pass the question on or to schedule a talk with a human. And it never pushes after a firm no.

Which prospect files can you use?

B2B files built legally: your customers and former customers, inbound enquiries left unanswered, contacts gathered at trade shows, professional databases acquired within the rules. We check the scope with you before the campaign, we exclude opted-out numbers, and we never call private individuals' numbers.

What happens if the prospect wants to speak to a human?

The agent offers an appointment or a callback by your team at the slot that suits the prospect, and the exchange goes straight into the calendar of the sales rep concerned, along with the report. A live call transfer to one of your numbers can also be configured.

Does the agent leave a message on voicemail?

It detects voicemail automatically. Depending on your preference, it leaves a short message (who is calling, on whose behalf, about what) or hangs up without leaving one, and the number is retried later in the campaign. Voicemails are counted separately in the reporting: a message left is not a prospect reached.

How much does an AI outbound calling campaign cost?

On a quote basis. The price depends on the volume of numbers to call, the complexity of the script and the duration of the campaign. The simplest thing is to book a demo: we show you the agent in real conditions and we quote your specific case. You can also ask to get a callback or call 09 72 10 55 19.
